Welcome to your Starling Community!

We built this forum because we care about what you think. We hope you’ll join us in building a community out of inspiring conversations, personal passions and big ideas. It’s here for you to give us feedback about your experience of the app, as well as what you’d like to see in the future and what’s on the roadmap - all with the support of the team here at Starling HQ!

Before you start chatting, grab a coffee and take a minute to read through these guidelines.
Think of them as suggestions about how to contribute constructively, rather than hard and fast rules. We want this community to benefit everyone, and for people to leave feeling like they’ve had a positive experience by being here.

It’s a space for open and respectful conversation between a likeminded community - so play nice

This is a conversation

Community is at the heart of any open forum, and ours is no different. Everything that’s posted here becomes part of the greater conversation; its direction and outcome is powered by you.

Not sure if you should post? Ask yourself if your contribution is improving the general conversation in a meaningful way. We want this forum to be a dynamic and engaging platform for interesting thoughts and ideas; the topics discussed here matter to us and we want them to matter to you too.

It’s often worth checking if a discussion is already taking place before starting a new one. Have a browse; often there will be similar conversations taking place already, so feel free to get involved in those. It can be a great way to get to know people with similar interests, so don’t be shy - we’re a friendly bunch!

Keep it clean

It would be boring if everyone agreed all the time, so feel free to engage in a little healthy debate if you disagree with someone.

What we’d like to avoid is criticism of people, rather than ideas. Personal attacks are never OK; neither are name-calling, explosive rants or knee-jerk reactions. A reasonable counter argument delivered in a respectful tone is the right way to approach a difference in opinion. We promise that it makes everyone’s lives far more pleasant.

It goes without saying that we won’t tolerate language of hate. That means offensive language. Abusive language. Hate speech. Racism. Obscenity or sexually explicit content. We know you’re better than that.

One last thing on that note. As in life, treat people how you’d like to be treated. Please don’t harass people, or expose their private information. Keep language, links and images safe for family and friends (this is a public forum, after all!)

Ask yourself if your post feels respectful. If it doesn’t — don’t post it.

It takes a village

What you do here counts. Ever noticed that when a few people leave their dirty bowls in the sink at work, everyone starts doing it? It’s called pack mentality. Your behaviour here has a direct impact on the general environment around you.

Help us influence the future of this community by engaging in discussions that make the forum an interesting and constructive place to be — and avoiding those which don’t. You can easily identify those discussions using the tools we’ve provided; search by favourites, bookmarks, likes and replies to find the best of the bunch.

Snitches (don’t) get stitches

In short? Don’t feed the trolls.

Report them instead. If you see something that doesn’t quite square with our community guidelines, we ask that you flag it so that we can address it. If you see someone using hateful or deliberately incendiary language, don’t reply. Often, acknowledging negative behaviour just encourages it and more importantly, it’s a waste of your time.

Our moderators are responsible for the upkeep of this forum. If something is reported, they’ll address the issue and take action, and they reserve the right to remove any content and any user account for any reason at any time, to maintain the spirit of community. However, they don’t preview new posts in any way, and they aren’t responsible for content posted by the community at large.

We’re proud of this forum, and we want you to be too. Keeping it tidy and organised is a group effort, so we really appreciate your efforts to keep it looking shipshape. That means trying to put things in the right place. Starting topics in the right categories. Avoiding cross-posting the same idea in multiple topics or diverting topics by changing it midstream. Using the ‘like’ button instead of ‘agreed’. You get the idea.

Oh, and don’t worry about signing your posts — everything you post will feature your profile information at the end.

##No-one likes a copycat

We know you’ve got lots of your own brilliant ideas, so please avoid posting anything that belongs to anybody else (unless you’ve got permission, of course). That includes descriptions, links, software, video, audio or images; intellectual property theft is a big deal and we take it seriously. Great original content is the best way you can contribute to this community!

##Terms of Service

Legalese isn’t particularly interesting, but it’s necessary to protect you, your data and ourselves. Please have a scan through our Terms of Service, which describe your rights related to content, privacy, and laws. To use this service, you’ll have to agree to abide by our TOS.

##Need to get in touch urgently?
